How is this data produced?
FDI into Malaysia is a category of investment by non-residents that reflects the objective of obtaining a lasting interest in Malaysia. Financial instruments covered under direct investment include equity, reinvestment of earnings and debt instruments (such as inter-company loans and advances, trade credits). FDI statistics for Malaysia are compiled as part of the balance of payments, which is compiled based on the IMF's BPM6 guidelines.
